Invitation

At Sacred Heart we are involved with and sponsor a number of works of charity and social justice. Our common baptism into Christ's death and Resurrection calls us to become the body of Christ in the world, giving ourselves for reconciliation and new life. Please join us in our effort to fulfill the Lord Jesus' parting command: "love one another." (John 15:17)

Respect Life Committee

The general purpose of the Respect Life Committee is commitment to the defense of life in all its stages and in every condition: the unborn, the elderly, the severely handicapped and all those who are seen as unproductive in our present-day society and culture. The Committee is dedicated to making parishioners more aware of pro-life issues and needs and the recruitment of volunteers to help those in need. This is accomplished through: Education - providing accurate, truthful information in preparing and distributing pro-life materials; Advocacy - in recommending and supporting Respect Life issues; Political Activity - a phone tree for calls to our elected representatives to support pro-life legislation. Most importantly, the Committee's work is rooted in prayer, Mass, Rosary and the Holy Hour.

Thrift Shop

The "Family Closet" Thrift Shop is a "store" in the Grade School building, Room A009. A wide variety of good clothing for women and children, grade school uniforms and accessories are available. Shelves contain an ever changing collection of house wares, books, toys and miscellaneous items. The generous donations of parishioners and friends give the shop a constantly varied inventory. All proceeds go to the Sacred Heart educational fund. The shop is open Wednesday 11:00 am -3:00pm and Saturday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 P.M. The Thrift Shop closes for summer. Please keep the "Thrift Shop" in mind.

Sharing Community

Also known as "Meals for the Homeless," this ministry is served by Sacred Heart parishioners on a monthly basis. On that occasion, parishioners prepare a lunch for the Sharing Community. Usually, we feed about 200 homeless men, women and children. Over 50 members of the parish participate in this program, including cooks, servers and drivers. Since 1987, Sacred Heart volunteers have never missed a month. Cost of the food is partially supported by an annual donation of $4,000 from the Westchester Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.

Scouts

Brownies and Girls. The Girl Scouts provide an informal educational program designed to help girls develop to their fullest potential. This is carried out in groups with adult leadership and provides a wide range of activities geared to their age levels. They learn to work and play safely, explore many cultures, gain an appreciation of the Arts, and discover more about the natural world. See the weekly Bulletin for announcements of activities, or contact the Church office.

Cubs and Boys. Boy Scout Troop 12 meets at Sacred Heart. Its purposes are to influence the development of character and spiritual growth, to develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship, to encourage good sportsmanship, to improve understanding within the family, to strengthen the ability to get along with others, to respect people, to foster a sense of personal achievement by developing interests and skills, to show how to be helpful and do one's best, and to provide fun and exciting new things to do. See the weekly Bulletin for announcements of activities, or contact the Church office.

Recovery

AA and NA. These groups are fellowships of people recovering from the diseases of alcoholism and drug addiction. During their meetings, the members share their experience, strength and hope in order to help each other maintain addiction-free living one day at a time. They are based on the "Twelve Steps," spiritual principles which are practiced as a way of life - and which have been successful in enabling thousands of people live a full and wholesome life. The only requirement for these programs is the desire of individuals to end their addiction. Please contact the Church office confidentially to learn when and where the groups meet.
