FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK….

From the time I entered the Capuchins, I have heard the name B.J. Harrington. It was not until I became Pastor here that I had the opportunity to work with B.J. He was known to many of you, and I felt it fitting that we pay our respects to him. Since I have only known him a short time, Jim Landy has written a brief reflection on Mr. Harrington.

On January 23rd, Sacred Heart Parish lost a great friend, benefactor and counselor with the passing of William F. Harrington.

“B.J.” as he was better known served as general counsel on a pro-bono basis to Sacred Heart and all of our entities for over 50 years. He was involved as a member of our first Parish Council, and was a founder of Sacred Heart Housing Corp which built and sponsored Father Finian Sullivan Tower and Monastery Manor providing 300 units of affordable housing to senior and disabled citizens for the past 35 years. Mr. Harrington was also a founding member and past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of our high school where he had taught. Much of what Sacred Heart is and does was shepherded by his wisdom and guidance. His footprint has been indelibly left on our parish and our community.

These are among many of the ways B.J. Harrington followed the Lord’s call for us to serve one another and our best way to honor his memory is to follow his example and use our individual talents to the benefit of others. ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.”
